Dahana Ranch Inc. is always looking for the right candidate for employment. It is extremely helpful but not required if you have been raised or worked extensively on a ranch or farm. Ranch work is not a job. It is a complete lifestyle commitment.
The positions we occasionally need filled are:
- Assistant Trainer – starting colts, finishing the ranch horse, working cow horse.
- Wranglers – head wrangler and assistant. Peak season is April-August. These workers do all aspects of ranch work; from feeding, weeding, painting picking up feed, etc.
- Ranch maintenance, fix-it person.
We are a family run ranch. This means we are always flying by the seat of our pants. There is no rigid schedule. If you need one, this is not place for you. The ideal candidate must have:
- Common Sense
- Horse experience
- People skills
- Respect
- A positive attitude
- An open mind
First and foremost. you must be a HAPPY person. There isn’t anything worse than coming to work with somebody who is having a bad day, everyday.
Experience: Both the Wrangler and the Assistant Trainer jobs require a short 15 minute video. The video should be in with an introduction i.e. “Hi, I’m Sue John from Texas. Today I will be riding a four year old horse who is blah blah blah.”
If you have access to more than one horse, show us all you can do within that 15 minutes. The interview process will not occur without the tape. A resume with 3 work related references is also required. The references should not be relatives. They can be former employers, co-workers, mentors, teachers, etc.
